26th June 2012 IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION Gas Boilers – Flues in voids – new legislation

In November 2010 the Health & Safety Executive issued new compulsory guidelines for property owners to arrange for inspection hatches to be fitted to concealed flues, originating from a gas boiler.

This situation usually occurs where the boiler is sited on an internal wall. The purpose is to be able to inspect joints that may be leaking carbon monoxide and other noxious gases.

These works will be required to be completed by 31st December 2012. After 1st January 2013 any gas engineer working on a system where the complete flue is not visible will advise the owner that the system is ‘at risk’ and turn off the gas supply to the boiler so that it cannot be used. This does not mean that your flue system is suddenly unsafe.

Walton and Allen is able to organise and carry out the necessary works (if applicable to your property), with a fixed price per hatch. Should you wish to discuss any of the above then please contact Brent Weightman on 0115 924 3304 or email brent@waltonandallen.co.uk.
