Only 10% of tenants happy with the condition of their rental property

Less than one in ten tenants are completely happy with the state of their rental property, while almost one third end a tenancy early because of dissatisfaction with its condition.

Poor quality kitchens and bathrooms are the biggest issue for tenants, while standard of décor and quality of fittings could be a deal-breaker for one in three people. In addition, old and badly maintained kitchens and bathrooms would deter almost half of prospective tenants from renting a property. On the flip side, three quarters of tenants say that water and energy efficiency are very important.

These findings were revealed in a survey of the private property rental market carried out by the National Landlords Association and shower company Methven, who questioned 1,000 private tenants.

The survey also uncovered an important fact for all private landlords: location is still the deciding factor in whether a tenant takes a property, while communal areas are the least important consideration.

Obviously, Walton & Allen are well aware of the factors which influence tenants in deciding which property to rent and whether to stay there or not. That’s why we take great efforts to ensure that our rental properties are equipped, fitted and maintained to the highest standards both inside and in communal areas.
